V.Ill.Kt. Werner M. Schwab, Dep.Int.-Gen. Benelux Division

RCC Lecture delivered in the Schola Palatina Conclave No 509, on 19 December A.D. 2015.

  1. The reign of the Son of God in the Day of Judgement.

And now?

The pieces of the True Cross remain spread out over the whole world, it was considered a great honour to obtain even a sliver of this precious relic and many Abbeys and Cathedrals, as well as kings acquired even such a small piece and these are and were treasured for centuries.

However, the total known volume of known relics of the True Cross amounts to only a fraction of the cross. The rest is lost, destroyed, or otherwise unaccounted for. A large surviving portion, is preserved in the Monastery of Koutloumousiou on Mount Athos, Other parts are in Rome, in Brussels, in Venice, in Ghent and in Paris.

Santo Toribio de Liébana in Spain is said to hold the largest piece and is one of the most visited Roman Catholic pilgrimage sites. Another portion of the True Cross is in the Monasterio de Tarlac at San Jose, Tarlac City, on the Philippines.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church claims to have the right wing of the true cross buried in the monastery of Gishen Mariam.

Like the Light of our Lord, the True Cross has been diffused over the whole world and so the Cross really reaches out to the four cardinal points, embracing the whole world.

And as from the splinters (true or false) of the True Cross, as they are guarded all over the world, brought together one could not only refashion the Beams of a Cross, but yes, a building as great as the Temple of Solomon of Jerusalem, so let us, knights of this Order strive to be also ourselves to be symbolically splinters of the True Cross, spread out into the world and, when brought together, capable of building – by want of territory, in our hearts – a temple and tabernacle.

And that we, when the King of Kings calls us before his throne on the Day of Judgment; that we may be found worthy of a place in that Building.

Not Built By Hands, eternal in the Heavens.
